Group Therapy

In group therapy, individuals can learn, grow together, and experience meaningful support through psychoeducation, recreational therapy, and community development.

Evidence-Based Small Group Treatment

Group therapy is an essential part of most recovery programs. Our program utilizes it to build a close-knit community and put mental health strategies into practice. Support from peers in similar situations can help our clients feel safer and more likely to be open and honest.

Fellow clients keep each other accountable by growing together. Often, community support is just what someone needs to be more successful in their journey.  While every client’s needs are unique, we know that group treatment facilitates healing and recovery.

Group curriculum at Sequoia was developed by behavioral health professionals to include a multitude of topics. These are meant to educate clients about their disorders, teach new coping skills, and create healthy relationships. Group therapy is not limited to the indoors either! Many groups are held outdoors in an experiential learning environment.

Outside Meetings and Self-Help Groups

In addition to guided group therapy, we place an emphasis on community support and integration. Outside self-help meetings and mental health focus groups help clients integrate into the community and meet other individuals who may provide support once treatment is finished.

Group participation will look a little different for each client, but it is a vital part of recovery. It allows people to openly share common experiences and envision what life after treatment could be like. Support groups also help people develop new, healthy friendships and habits. Our small program size at Sequoia allows us to help each client participate in relevant and meaningful group activities.

Why Trauma-Based Programming?

We understand that trauma is an underlying factor in many mental and behavioral health disorders. Understanding and working through that trauma can help make other treatments more effective. If trauma is not recognized and resolved, treating its symptoms will not make a lasting difference.

We also consider trauma in the pacing of our program. Trauma treatment methods focus on creating balance and avoid overwhelming clients with intense, non-stop programming.
