Trauma Therapy

Trauma therapy recognizes that trauma is an underlying part of many other conditions. This philosophy helps us provide compassionate and effective treatment.

Who Benefits from Trauma-Based Care?

Whether or not we realize it, trauma plays a part in many of our lives and in the choices we make. It is an invisible and devastating force.

Left untreated, trauma can lead to

  • Anxiety
  • Depression
  • Substance abuse
  • Relationship problems
  • Physical pain

At Sequoia Behavioral Health, you’ll experience integrated therapy that addresses your mental health symptoms and their root causes. Every member of our staff is trained in treating trauma and stress related disorders, and we place a special emphasis on understanding and resolving trauma in our day-to-day programming.

While all programming at Sequoia is trauma-based, some treatments are designed to address trauma directly.

The Guiding Principles of Trauma-Focused Treatment

To successfully execute trauma-based therapy, we adhere to certain pillars and principles. These ensure the comfort, safety, and success of all of our clients.

SAFETY

During their stay, we promote not just physical health and safety, but mental safety. Individuals move at their own pace in an environment that promotes comfort and recuperation.

TRUSTWORTHINESS & TRANSPARENCY

We provide complete and thorough information about every aspect of treatment through psychoeducation intervention. Healing trauma is based on trust.

PEER SUPPORT

In addition to individual therapy sessions, clients participate in small-group therapy. We find that peer support encourages participants to be open and actively participate in treatment.

COLLABORATION & MUTUALITY

Through programming that includes small-group and recreational therapy, we aim to support all of our clients in as many ways as possible. We learn just as much from you as you do from your stay here.

EMPOWERMENT & CHOICE

Trauma can break a person down. Trauma-specific treatments are designed to reframe and reprogram trauma responses, empowering you to live the life you were meant to live.

CULTURAL, HISTORICAL & GENDER ISSUES

Trauma isn’t always a single event. We know that entire communities share traumas and struggles, and these are just as important to consider as individual traumas.

How we Choose Our Therapists

Trauma therapy is at the core of all of our treatment programs. All of our therapists receive training from Somatic Experiencing International, the leading authority on somatic experience therapy. Addressing trauma makes for more effective treatment and more permanent healing outcomes.
